The Center for Teaching & Learning Mathematics offers PD training for districts interested in math summer enrichment camps.
See below for an example from one district in Mascoutah, Illinois, who has put this PD to good use!
An enrichment camp that will open your minds to the AMAZING WORLD OF MATH!
Mascoutah Community Unified School District #19 is offering a tuition-free summer enrichment program funded through the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) in partnership with the Center for Teaching & Learning Mathematics at the University of Northern Iowa. One of the many goals of the summer camp will be to inspire the students' mindsets regarding how they perceive math and themselves as mathematicians. We will learn to be flexible when working with numbers and operations, and we'll also be experiencing mathematics in creative settings that involve dragonflies and chocolate milk!
Selection
Enrollment for students who have completed 4th through 7th grades will be on an invitational basis. All students who have received the invitation are eligible to register.
Our summer enrichment program offers students the opportunity to advance their mathematical skills, to deepen their number sense, and to reach to greater math heights. It is being offered to students whose math test scores fell between 50% and 75%, in the "at or above" categories on the district level assessment test. Teacher recommendations and math grades also were considered.
